Sidebar

Sidebars are often used for items that are not directly related to the main text.

A sidebar can be inserted into any editable page. It is usually a short piece of text and may include images. You can use any formatting that you normally use on the main page.

Special functions

Inserting objects into your page. Use the Control Panel to insert objects. Click on the page at the point where you wish to insert the object, before clicking on a Control Panel button.

Hyperlink Hyperlink Select an image, word or phrase and click on the Hyperlink button to insert a hyperlink. The hyperlink dialogue will open.

Anchor 

After saving your page, click on the Edit off/on Edit off/on padlock to test the link.

Anchor Anchor Select a word or phrase and click on the Anchor button to insert an anchor. An anchor is a bookmark that you might insert in a long page so that your visitor may click on a hyperlink, either on that page or on another page, to take your visitor to that bookmark.

Horizontal Rule Horizontal Rule Click on the Horizontal Rule button to insert a line.

Break Break Click on the Break button to insert a break. A break may be needed when you have left (or right) floated an image and some text along side it and then want another paragraph to start below the image rather than continue along side.

Events table Events table Insert an Events table. Click on the page where you wish to insert an events table and then click on the Control Panel icon. The icon will be inserted into the page. Click on Save changes Save and, if the table exists, it will appear. If you have not yet created the table, a message will appear, telling you to go to the Members page and select Update your events table to create the table. Click to go to Members help page.

Table Table Insert a table. Click on the page where you wish to insert a table and then click on this Control Panel icon. A dialogue box will open. You may enter the number of columns. Another dialogue box will open for the number of rows. A table will be inserted and you may enter text or images. You may apply the usual styles e.g. left justify.

Once the table has been created, when the cursor is placed within the table the following editing buttons will appear in the Control Panel:

  Delete Table Delete table Click to delete the current table. You will be asked for confirmation.

  Toggle borders Toggle borders Display/hide the borders (inner and outer). When logged-in the borders display as dashed lines for clarity.

  Toggle background colour Toggle background colour Change the background colour of the selected cell.

  Insert Row Insert row Click to insert a row above the current row.

  Add Row Add row Click to add a row to the bottom of the table.

  Delete Row Delete row Click to delete the current row. You will be asked for confirmation.

  Insert Column Insert column Click to insert a column to the left of the current column.

  Add Column Add column Click to add a column to the end of the table.

  Delete Column Delete column Click to delete the current column. You will be asked for confirmation.

  Merge with cell below Merge with cell below Merge two adjacent cells in the same column.

  Merge with cell to the right Merge with cell to the right Merge two adjacent cells in the same row.

  Split a merged cell Split a merged cell Return merged cells to normal.

  Set a percentage width for a column Set a percentage width for a column Opens a dialogue where you may enter a width for the column of the selected cell.

  Table width Table width Set the table width as a percentage of the containing block.

  Table left Table left Float the table to the left of any other content as you might with an image. Only applies to tables with width of less than 100%.

  Table centre Table centre Centre the table within the containing block. Only applies to tables with width of less than 100%.

  Table right Table right Float the table to the right of any other content as you might with an image. Only applies to tables with width of less than 100%.

  Collapse table Collapse table Remove HTML table tags but retain inner content. This may cause images to appear below the text but they may then be dragged into position and floated left or right as appropriate.

Sidebar Sidebar Insert a sidebar. A small block will appear on the right hand side of the page. Click in it and you may enter text, images, tables and feeds just as you would in the main page.

  Delete sidebar Delete sidebar To delete the sidebar you may click on this icon, which will appear if there is a sidebar on the page. You will be asked to confirm deletion, or simply press your delete key when the handles are visible.

Facebook Facebook feed Insert a Facebook feed. Click on the page where you wish to place your Facebook feed and then click on this Control Panel icon. You will need to set your "Facebook URL" in the Control File to see the Facebook feed. Go to the Facebook page.

Twitter Twitter feed Insert a Twitter feed. Click on the page where you wish to place your Twitter feed and then click on this Control Panel icon. You will need to set your "Twitter Widget ID" in the Control File to see the Twitter feed. Go to the Twitter page.

Video Video Insert a video from an external source e.g. YouTube or Vimeo. Click on the page where you wish to insert a video and then click on the Control Panel icon. A dialogue box will open. Enter the Video URL as described in the Video help page. The icon will be inserted into the page. Click on Save changes Save and the video will appear. You may upload a video to your own website for it to play in the built-in HTML5 video player. However, if you use YouTube your page ranking will be improved.

Image Insert link to file Click on the Link button to insert a link to a document and also upload that document to the public files folder or private files folder if you are editing a Members only page. Choose a file using the or button. If you have selected a document, the image icon  will disappear, leaving the file link icon . Click in your page where you want to insert your document link. Click on the Link icon on the Control Panel and save your page. Your document will be uploaded and saved and a clickable icon and link will be inserted in your page e.g  filename.pdf

Image Image Click on the Image button to insert an image. Go to the Images page.
